Absract. Recently, an increased interest in learning Bulgarian by foreign citizens or by Bulgarians and people of Bulgarian origin outside the borders of Bulgaria has been observed. Because of this, the methodology of teaching Bulgarian as a second language is gaining relevance and teachers are looking for options to enrich their teaching practice with additional methods, tools, practices and resources.
Therefore, the aim of this paper is to present a free resource – popular music, which can be used depending on the learners' profile in different ways. In this article, the author’s experience in teaching Bulgarian to Ukrainian refugees is shared. Some ways of incorporating the lyrics of popular songs into the learning process in order to achieve certain results are presented, for example: developing listening comprehension skills, deepening knowledge of some lexical and grammatical categories, learning idioms and cliché phrases, acquiring socio-cultural competence, etc.
