Absract. The article presents the historical reasons for the introduction of the STEM approach in the Bulgarian secondary school. Skills and competencies of teachers and students for the effective implementation of STEM educational approach are summarized. A survey of 36 Mathematics, Information Technology and Science teachers was conducted and analyzed for their views and attitudes regarding the introduction of the STEM approach in secondary school. Based on the obtained results, STEM topics are proposed for the implementation of research and invention projects. Major still unsolved problems, possible solutions and prospects
for applying this modern educational approach are pointed out.
