Absract. The article describes online learning against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Bulgarian context of higher education and the challenges faced by university professors during this period and examines their readiness for online learning. The strengths and weaknesses of online learning are considered, as well as the opportunities of higher education to respond to educational problems arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
