Absract. Defense policy objectives are achieved by building and continuously developing appropriate defense capabilities to counter contemporary challenges, risks and
threats and achieving defense capabilities to effectively participate in the full range of
NATO and EU-led operations. To ensure that the development of defense capabilities is
directed to the operational needs identified by the armed forces and is consistent with the missions of the Armed Forces, it is necessary to determine the importance of each of the imperatives/capability elements, as well as the extent to which the proposed directions for their improvement. For the purposes of research on the topic: „Directions for improving the capabilities of mechanized and tank formations in planning and conducting tactical actions in a defensive operation” the method of expert evaluation was applied and the results of the study are presented.
