Application of the Literary Concept of “Chronotope” in the Sociological Analyses

Abstract. The article presents an interdisciplinary theoretical attempt to transfer the concept of chronotope from science of literature into the methodological coordinate of sociological analysis. The object is the concept of chronotope, denoting the time-space of the action in the novel. The subject has a methodological character - the forms of application of the concept of chronotope in sociological analysis.
By researching modern sociological scientific literature, the presence of already established models for the application of the concept is verified. The possibilities of the chronotope in fulfilling the explanatory and prognostic function of sociology are explored. It is proposed, for the purposes of sociological analysis, to introduce and use the concept of social chronotope.
The article is structured in four parts, methodological introduction and conclusion. It presents two sections – chronological and problematic, in the path of the concept of chronotope before literary studies and from it to sociology. The focus is on the transformation of the chronotope from literary studies into a social chronotope in sociological analysis.
